ABSA Bank Sponsors ‘Pass The Mic’ EP From Pine Creek Records

Pine Creek Records in conjunction with ABSA Kenya are set to release “Pass the Mic” project that will see popular Kenyan artists remix Les Wanyika songs.

According to Pine Creek Records CEO Peter Nduati, the project is all about awakening the nostalgic feeling of the 70s and 80s created by the hits.

“The project aims to create continuity and synchrony through generations of music from the 70s onwards into 2030,” he said.

“This will help artistes learn from previous generations even as they create new contexts based on their current environment.”

The project and involves 12 hits from Les Wanyika mashed up and remixed with present-day artists, fusing them to modern afro-beats sound but still maintaining their originality.

Some of the artists featured on the project include Khaligraph Jones, Serro, Guardian Angel, Bire The Vocalist, Arrow Bwoy and Amos and Josh, Fena, Hart The Band and afro-fusion singer Atemi Oyungu.

ABSA bank fully sponsored the idea, which according to Nduati, was inspired by DJ Khalid after he creatively managed to team up with Rihanna and sampled the 1990 hit song “Maria Maria” by Carlos Santana and The Product G&B to produce another hit banger, ‘Wild Thoughts’.

“Anyone listening to the new songs will most definitely identify with the original song,” he said.

Les Wanyika is a popular Rumba band that rocked the airwaves in the late 70s, 80s and early 90s and are behind such hits as Sina Makosa, Afro, Barua Yako, and Pamela.
