Kenyan movie Uradi is now available on Netflix.
The movie is a Kikwetu production that features Kenyan stars such as Mwaura Bilal, Shiks Kapienga, Manasseh Nyagah, and Peter Kawa. Uradi officially premiered at the Galleria’s drive-in cinema on 25th September 2020.
On 24th December 2021, Uradi premiered on Netflix. It is a feature-length film revolving around a young man who comes from a local village in Nyahururu to Nairobi for higher education.
Drama soon begins to unfold as peer pressure pushes the desire for the high life in him. To make ends meet, he is forced into petty crime. This is without knowing that the allure of quick money is slowly landing him into the dangerous territories of radicalization and terrorism.
Despite premiering during a pandemic in 2020, Uradi’s official premiere was a beautiful event. It was a drive-in cinema experience that featured a red carpet, free popcorn and drink, and a meet-and-greet session. The event was attended by the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs, Joe Mucheru, and the former Kenya Film Commission Chief Executive Officer Peter Mutie.
The drive-in cinema experience was a true success. “When our client, Kikwetu, approached us, we knew we couldn’t wait for the cinemas to open. We just had to show the film to Kenyans. Because of the global pandemic, we thought we should still give people an opportunity to celebrate together in a controlled environment, and while adhering to the government’s directives.” Said Mwaniki Mageria, a movie producer and distributor.
