8 Things To Consider Before Purchasing Skincare Products

With so many skincare products, brands, skincare stores in the country, figuring out what skincare products to purchase can be overwhelming. How do you even start? What products are best suited for me? It can be stressful, especially if you’re a beginner looking to get started on your skincare journey.

Here are a few things to consider before purchasing a skincare product:-

Skin Concerns

Do you have acne, hyperpigmentation, eczema, or rosacea? Depending on what your problem areas are, you should search for skincare that addresses that.

Skin Type

Are you oily, sensitive, normal, dry, or combination skin? It’s important to consider when looking for skincare products. For instance, someone with acne-prone skin may want to look for matte sunscreens and products with salicylic acid, while those with dry skin might want to focus on thicker, cream-based moisturizers.

 Price

Are you in the market for high-end skincare products, or is budget-friendly skincare more your style? There is no right or wrong price range to have.

Ingredient List

Pay close attention and read it in its entirety. Active ingredients are not always the first thing listed.

Climate

Your skincare should change depending on the weather and the season. Hot, humid summers? Opt for a light, gel-based moisturizer. Cold, dry temperatures? Thick, cream or ointment moisturizers are the way to go.

Skin Tone

If you’re in the market for something like sunscreen, it’s crucial to consider if it will be appropriate for your skin tone. For example, some less well-formulated sunscreens may leave a white cast on dark-skinned people.

Evidence-Based Studies

Not every skincare product out there has gone through rigorous testing to determine clinical efficacy. Sometimes, products are more expensive because they have the science plus studies to back them up. Also, be wary of some studies; for example, was there bias? What was the sample size?

Dermatologist Recommendation

It’s always best to get skincare recommendations from a certified dermatologist or a licensed esthetician.
