7 Lessons I Learned During My Acne Journey – Pro Makeup Artist Shares Skincare Nuggets

Acne is a journey; some days are good while others are terrible! Having suffered acne for close to six years, I can attest to how acne can develop your character, lol! However, we keep putting effort to achieve healthy skin that feels radiant and makes us feel good about ourselves.

It takes so much for acne-prone skin babes to build their self-esteem, self-confidence and embrace their acne scars, blemishes and bumps/pimples. Here are some lessons that I have learned during my acne journey; I hope my lessons will inspire and encourage you in your acne journey.

Wear Your Sunscreen

Sunscreen is your best friend forever. Whether it’s sunny or rainy or you’re outside or indoors. Your skin will thank you.

Document Your Skin Journey

Normalize documenting your skin journey. Take pictures and videos of your bare skin to track your progress. Additionally, it builds your self-confidence.

Type of Acne Conditions

There are different types of acne conditions. Figure out which one you have first and start treating it the right way.

Skincare Products

Skincare products work differently for each person. What may work for me may not work for you. It’s okay. Keep doing your research until you figure out what works for you.

Unsolicited Advice

Stop listening to all the unsolicited advice you will receive from people with “perfect” healthy skin; it messes with your self-esteem. After all, you know you have dark spots, or blemishes, or pimples on your skin. You do not need a reminder.

Seek Medical Help

Consult a dermatologist if you have severe skin problems. Most dermatological visits are expensive, but it is worth the investment.

Healthy Skin over Perfect Skin

Love your skin. Remember that our skin goes through so much to protect us during the day, no matter the bumps, pigment, irregularities, and scars. As much as it does for us, be sure to give it love and support.
