Most people experience bloating at some point. The feeling is uncomfortable and well, gross.
A bloated stomach is a feeling of fullness, pressure, or tightness in the stomach. Bloating is usually caused by three main conditions: swallowing excess air, eating certain foods, and having bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine.
While there’s no universal cause or treatment for bloating, there are several ways you can end it without taking any medicine.
Below are six ways you can get rid of bloating:
1. Go For A Walk
Moving stimulates the digestive system to contract, which may help pass trapped gas a reason why you should take a walk.
2. Drink (Lukewarm or Hot) Water
When Dehydrated, especially in women, a lot of gas forms in the stomach. The more you drink the less bloated you’ll be. It will also flush out excess sodium which holds on to water.
3. Avoid chewing gum
The sugar alcohols in gum can cause bloating in some people. Swallowing air while chewing also may lead to bloating and gas pain.
4. Cut down on salt
An excess of sodium causes the body to retain water. This can cause a swollen and bloated feeling in the belly and other areas of the body, such as the hands and feet.
5. Avoid carbonated beverages
You are more likely to feel bloated after taking a can of coke or just any other drink with gas.
6. Eat a banana
Bananas are one of the best bloat fighters out there. Since they are packed with potassium and soluble fibre.
Before you take your first bite, however, make sure the banana isn’t too ripe. An overripe banana might taste 10 times sweeter, but it’s a disaster for an already upset stomach.
