When it comes to skincare, there is so much advice out there. It can be pretty hard to decipher what is true and filter out the noise. Mostly, to find what works best for your skin, you will need lots of trial and error.
Here, we reveal a few common skincare mistakes that you must avoid for healthy glowing skin.
Using Astringent Toners
Under no circumstance should your toner dry out your skin or contain alcohol. Drying out your skin won’t make the acne go away either. Always consider hydrating toners instead as they help balance the skin pH and prepare the skin for other skincare products.
Not Using Moisturizer For Oily Skin
Aside from applying sunscreen, moisturizing your skin is one of the best things you can do for your skin. For oily skin, applying moisturizer tricks your skin to produce lesser oil or sebum. However, use lightweight moisturizers as these absorb fast into the skin and do not leave your skin looking greasy. Remember, everyone needs a moisturizer.
Using Wipes To Remove Your Makeup
Honestly, the only reason you should have wipes at home is to clean surfaces or sanitize your skincare/makeup products. Ensure you keep makeup wipes away from your face. Use a cotton pad and micellar water, or use an oil cleanser. Using makeup wipes causes friction, and that leads to breakouts. Furthermore, makeup wipes do not do an excellent job as they leave you with even more dirt hence clogging your skin.
Using Lemon, Turmeric, Honey, Toothpaste On Your Face
Leave all those (DIYs) Do It Yourself YouTube and Pinterest videos alone. I’ve fallen victim and used toothpaste to clear a pimple on my face, and it felt like pouring water into a basket. Your skin needs more than one ingredient from your kitchen to thrive. Additionally, natural ingredients are open to contamination, as they contain no preservatives, which can do more harm to your skin. Instead, buy skincare products with these natural ingredients as they are adequately formulated in the lab. Using lemon is worse! All you get is sunburns.
