Mega Opportunity For Visual Storytellers

NATIV in partnership with Pocket Stories is calling for submissions from African creatives for the Inaugural edition of the NATIV Shorts Competition. Winners stand a chance of getting a $2,500 prize (inclusive of cash, equipment, and mentorship). This contest is open to visual storytellers with experience in creating documentaries, promos, TV commercials, branded content, and YouTube content. Creatives who have worked with international clients are highly encouraged to apply.

NATIV is a platform that connects African creatives to international buyers who are sourcing for filmmakers for their projects in Africa. The NATIV Shorts Competition’s main aim is to bring focus on what it means to be an African creative.

The call opens from the 24th of January 2023 2 pm U.K. time all the way to the February 15, 2023, 2 pm U.K. time deadline. The application process features 2 stages. The first stage requires interested participants to apply via the official NATIV website. This contest is free-to-enter and submissions must include a 30-second clip and five photographs on life as an African creative. After this, all submissions will be reviewed and 12 participants selected to advance to the next stage.

NATIV Shorts Eligibility & Prizes

The eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • A citizen and permanent resident of one of the six countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria, and Gambia).
  • Have an African nationality with a valid passport.
  • Have their own equipment and a track record as a content creator
  • Able to commit to the competition timeline.
  • Have a “good eye” for strong narratives and images, using visuals and sound to tell the story.

According to the NATIV Shorts Competition organizers, the participants will get a chance to get mentorship with African and global media industry executives including an exclusive masterclass with Jane Mote of Pocket Stories.
